Diego ect english post

On the trip we saw a presentation about the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. The presenter referred a lot to the first three words of the Constitution: "We the People". The speaker was very good at persuading us into thinking good things about the Constitution. She was a great speaker and was good at memorizing the whole presentation. I learned a lot about public speaking from her because she was very good and prenunciated very well.

Diego ect science post

Towards the end of the trip we went to go see the Smithsonian. One of the museums we went to go see was the air and space museum. In the air and space museum we saw and tested many things. One of them was a test with a metal rod that went you moved back and forth caused friction. Then that friction heated up a metal mesh like thing. Next to it was a thermometer and the faster and more you moved the metal rod back and forth the higher the temerature got because of friction.

From the beggining of the trip to the end was atleast one full week. But how long was it exactly? My plane was scheduled to leave at 6:20 a.m. on saturday, may 16, which ment we had to be at the airport at 4:30 a.m. My plane was scheduled to get back in at 11:50 p.m. the next saturday. So from 4:30 a.m. on one saturday to 11:50 p.m. on the next saturday was the length of our trip. If one day is 24 hours, then 7 days is 168 hours. From 4:30 a.m. on the first saturday to 4:30 a.m. on the second saturday was 168 hours. There is still some remaining hours though. From 4:30 a.m. to 11:50 p.m. is 19 hours. Now, 168 + 19 = 177 hours.

Battle of Lexington (Math)

While in Lexington Common, we learned about the battle that occurred there about 234 years ago. Apparently, there were 700 British soldiers, or "regulars," against only 77 Minute Men. That meant that the US militia was down 623 men with a about 9 regulars to 1 Minute Man. The Minute Men lost 5 men and had only 72 men left with 8 of those men injured. That meant that they lost 6.5% of their forces. The regulars lost 11 men in this battle, but at the end they still had 98.4% of their men. Overall, the battle definitely was worse for the colonials.

Today was our first real day on the trip. We had a tour guide for most of the day to show us the highlights of historic Boston. As we passed through the northern part of town where all the building are really old, I noticed that most if not all the buildings were made of brick. It was cool to see the architecture of America at its beginnings. Throughout the tour we saw graveyards, almost everything to do with Paul Revere, and we took a mini tour of Harvard, but the most amazing/funny thing we saw was this little piece of a brick building built totally with metal ( as you can see at the top right). It was cool to see this because your passing hundreds of buildings and houses made fully of brick and then you come across this tiny corner made entirely of steel.

Math During History

During the Battle of Lexington, British troops at the advantage. But as the minutemen got the advantage of 4,000 men, the British had 1,700 men. This is a difference 2,700. The minutemen had 42.5% more people. The British was 1 to 2.4 people. So in order to win this battle some people had to kill 2 and others had to kill 3.
